D. Manuel de Faria e Sousa, born on 18 March 1590 in a small village in the monarchical province of Entre-Douro-e-Minho, soon left Pombeiro for Braga, Porto, Genoa, Rome, Lisbon and Madrid. In these cities, he pursued the roles of historian, poet, letter writer, literary critic and polymath. Considered one of the most learned men of “talent and character” of his time, during the Iberian Union he made use of Castilian to ensure the glory of the Portuguese homeland. A clear example of this is the work he published in Lisbon in 1628: Epitome de las Historias Portuguesas, dividido en quatro partes. UNTIL 3 MAY 2026 . MUSEUM OF ANGRA DO HEROÍSMO .
