“Stories in the Feminine” was the theme of the first themed visit as part of the “Venham mais 5” initiative.
A route that began in the sacristy of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia and continued through several spaces of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo.
Lasting 45 minutes, these visits are free, but prior registration is required to avoid exceeding the limit of 10 participants imposed due to the pandemic.
“Stories in the Feminine” included the exploration of paintings, clothing, musical instruments, and engineering pieces, allowing discussions on fashion, health, education, clothing, and work, in a guided visit led by Ana Lúcia Almeida, coordinator of the educational service of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo.
On 16 July, there will be “Stories with Gunpowder”, related to the weapons on display in the museum’s militaria and armament collection, and on 23 July, “Stories of Travels” will be revealed, featuring the types of vessels used during the Age of Discoveries, and recalling the expedition of the brave from Mindelo, the royal visit of 1901, and the journey of the paper boat “Autonomia”.

Museums in a Pandemic Context | And Now?
The Museum of Angra contacted the various parish councils to request testimonies on how local authorities are dealing with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The aim is, in the future, to be able to document, through text and images, how the island responded to the pandemic.
The institution remains in operation, having adapted its activities to new technologies.
There was also greater use of social media, fostering engagement with visitors through the sharing of photographs of the museum’s pieces along with their descriptions.

Works Carried Out by the MAH During the Lockdown Period – RTP Açores Report
Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Centre,
in Jornal do Exército, Ed. 697 / March 2020, Jaime Regalado, Senior Technician at the MAH
João Pereira was recognised for his professional activity dedicated to Terceira embroidery, a successful business. At the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, the explanation of this art can be found.
The pieces on display are just the tip of the iceberg in any museum; the vast majority of the collection is stored in the reserves.
In addition to the collections storage of the Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Centre, which are open to the public every two months, the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo has other thematic collections storage areas, such as this painting collection storage.
At times, the pieces that form part of the collections storage of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo are loaned to other museums in the Azores for thematic exhibitions and may also be displayed in temporary exhibitions organised by the Museum.
