Opened at the end of May, this exhibition has, according to Jorge Bruno, been well received by the public, particularly by the young people attending the art workshops organised by the educational service of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum.
According to the catalogue, this is an exhibition where the predominance of mixed techniques and the use of less noble materials can be understood as a consequence of the artist’s admiration for Antoni Tàpies and Louise Nevelson, with the influence of the Azorean painter José Nuno da Câmara Pereira also recognised in the experimental nature of the works on display.

Together with the Division of Intangible and Archaeological Heritage of the Regional Directorate of Culture, the Angra do Heroísmo Museum was awarded the ‘Intervention in Conservation and Restoration’ prize for the work carried out in the sacristy of the Church of Our Lady of the Guide, adjoining the São Francisco Building.
The Angra do Heroísmo Museum also received the award in the category of ‘Education and Cultural Mediation Service’, a field in which it had already been recognised in 2013.
The Carlos Machado Museum was awarded in the category of ‘Innovation and Creativity’ and also received an honourable mention.
In the Azores, several projects and institutions have been recognised by APOM with various awards and honourable mentions in diverse areas such as Cultural Outreach Service, Journalistic Work, Visitability of Reserves, and Online Communication, among others. These accolades demonstrate that the Region has kept pace with the times and the latest developments in the field of Museology.
APOM, established in 1965, aims to bring together museology professionals and institutions equivalent to museums, according to the criteria set by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), as well as to promote the knowledge of museology and the scientific and technical fields that shape it.
Highlighting the importance of the role played by museums and the museological profession in each community and among peoples and cultures is another of its objectives.
In this regard, and in order to recognise the best achievements in national museums and the contribution of work carried out to their improvement, the association created the APOM Awards, open to all professionals and institutions working in the fields of Museology and Portuguese Heritage, including museums, local authorities, higher education institutions, research centres, foundations, and associations with similar purposes, among others.
The awards ceremony took place on Friday in Leiria, with the Region represented by the Director of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, Jorge Bruno.
The Angra Museum has been housed in the São Francisco Convent for fifty years, but it was founded seventy years ago, more precisely in 1949.
This weekend, to mark the occasion, a meeting of Azorean museums was also held in Angra do Heroísmo.
A way to exchange experiences and promote ongoing projects in the museums of each island.

It is an exhibition held in the chapter room of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, bringing together three painting series by Tiago Azevedo. Marked by mystical mist and Azorean landscapes, the works include historical figures, religion, and tales by the Brothers Grimm.
Passionate about the Baroque, his dominant aesthetic is pop surrealism, combined with the classical techniques of the great masters.
In addition to his original canvases, the painter seeks to make his art accessible through other objects.
After eight years dedicated to architecture, Tiago Azevedo moved to Munich, where he devoted himself entirely to painting.
The first exhibition by the Terceiran painter and architect, now based in Germany, is open at the Angra do Heroísmo Museum until 7 April.
