{"id":19836,"date":"2025-03-11T16:56:54","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T17:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museu-angra.cultura.azores.gov.pt\/others\/historical-pieces\/woman-in-cloak\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T10:12:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T11:12:39","slug":"woman-in-cloak","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/museu-angra.cultura.azores.gov.pt\/en\/others\/historical-pieces\/woman-in-cloak\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman in Cloak"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 40%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><p data-start=\"18\" data-end=\"369\">Within what is known as Regional Ceramics, there is a notable group of earthenware or faience pieces characterized by regionalist motifs, which serve as unique documents of the construction of a regionalist imagination, through the typification of the basket man, the milkman, or, as in the case of the examples highlighted here, the woman in cloak.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"771\">These different representations of the most emblematic of the traditional female customs of Terceira belong to the Collection of Decorative and Ornamental Arts of the MAH and were produced by the F\u00e1brica de Cer\u00e2mica Terceirense, commonly known as F\u00e1brica Scotto, originally established as the F\u00e1brica de Lou\u00e7as Progresso Terceirense in 1886 by Jacinto Martins Cardoso and Zeferino Augusto da Costa.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"773\" data-end=\"1285\">Although seemingly identical, each figure presents small variations, both in the woman\u2019s features and in the different degrees of formality in the attire. Notice the expressiveness of the first figure\u2019s face, with a carefully modeled hand slightly lifting the cloak from the face, almost completely veiled in the last two examples.
