{"id":15261,"date":"2025-03-17T12:32:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-17T13:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museu-angra.cultura.azores.gov.pt\/bottle\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T14:14:39","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T15:14:39","slug":"bottle","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/museu-angra.cultura.azores.gov.pt\/en\/others\/historical-pieces\/bottle\/","title":{"rendered":"Bottle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 40%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><p data-start=\"58\" data-end=\"256\">The feeding of soldiers in campaign has always been a major concern for armies due to its significant impact on troop health, morale, and consequently, the maintenance of their combat effectiveness.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"258\" data-end=\"425\">Thus, in a variety of operational environments\u2014from urban settings to the African hinterlands\u2014soldiers\u2019 personal equipment always included utensils for carrying water.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"735\">The materials and designs of these containers have evolved over time, influenced by available materials and technology, usage contexts, and cost considerations. From animal bladders or leather to plastic polymers, and including wood, glass, enameled iron, or aluminum, these water containers took many forms.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"984\">This particular canteen, from the civil war period between liberals and absolutists, was known at the time as a \u201cwooden water bottle.\u201d It was likely issued to a private in the 1st Provisional Battalion of Porto, created by decree on July 19, 1837.<\/p>&#13;\n<p data-start=\"986\" data-end=\"1163\">Made of painted wood with iron hoops, it had an estimated capacity of 1.5 liters.
