Moving from the public to the private sphere, the clock became, more than a precision instrument or an accurate measure of time, a decorative object under the influence of the French court. This exacting demand from the elites led some makers, considering themselves true artists, to focus more on appearance than substance—that is, on the case rather than the movement. It is part of the Science and Technology Collection of the Museum of Angra do Heroismo.
