Surpassed today by their electronic counterparts, board games delighted many generations of children, providing moments of social interaction and learning within the family context. Founded in 1939, Majora, a company from Porto whose name derives from its founder, Mário José António de Oliveira, is responsible for games that form part of the imagination of much of the Portuguese population, such as Horse Race, The Know-It-All, Cinderella, Snakes and Ladders, and also the game highlighted here, inspired by the Pacific crossing undertaken by the Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl on the raft Kon-Tiki. This and other games, all in excellent condition, were donated to the Museum of Angra do Heroismo last June, considerably enriching its Toys and Games Collection.
