Lajes Civil Airfield

This unidentified uniform, 1846 or 1848, was made of linen, possibly to be worn on warmer days. It is an incredibly rare piece within the scope of this period’s uniforms, and it is currently housed in our Militaria and Armament Conservation Unit.
Since it is not possible to identify the soldier for which this uniform was meant, it is believable that it could have belonged to the Chartist faction of the Patuleia. This was a Portuguese war between the Chartists (which were supported by Queen D. Maria II) and the Septembrists (liberal radicals) from October 1846 to June 1847.
