Tortoise shaped jewellery box

In Europe, from the 15th century onwards, the first porcelain pieces began to appear, and with the arrival of the Portuguese in the Orient, the European continent was flooded with porcelain pieces. It was, however, with the discovery of kaolin that porcelain began to be produced in Europe. In the case of this jewellery box, the production corresponds to the so-called Porcelaine de Paris in the late 18th century. This initiative is part of the “Museu fora de Portas” programme, through which the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo intends to show the richness and representativeness of its archive.
