Cabinet of Curiosities – Rabbit plank

The piece here exhibited is part of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo’s Science and Technology Conservation Unit, more specifically a reserve which recreates the clinical laboratory of Dr. Henrique Henriques Flores (1907-1985). This board was used to carry out pregnancy tests using fertile female rabbits as well as the urine of those who wished to know if they were pregnant. This method was developed in the 1930s by Maurice Friedman and Maxwell Lapham.
