Carmina Contemporary Art Gallery Dimas Simas Lopes
Enrique José Valero Perez (1933 – 2020), born in Alcácer Quibir (Morocco), lived for 25 years on Terceira Island, in Angra do Heroísmo, a place where he fell in love with “the people” and which marked his entire oeuvre. While on the island, he was actively involved in the dynamism of the arts in Terceira society, influencing a number of regional artists. He ended up settling in Madrid, where he remained until his death. His most emblematic works are characterized by faces with large, mysterious eyes, paintings that he left scattered throughout numerous private collections on Terceira Island, such as Helena Juliano’s, now on display at Carmina Galeria. In this exhibition, “with a very strong Valero identity”, there are mainly representations that are part of his memory of the island and that would persist long afterwards in Madrid.
