Ivory – The White Gold

Along with precious metals and stones, ivory has been an exotic material of choice for millennia, both in works of art and exquisite decorative accessories.

In the Azores, the development of whaling allowed the use of sperm whale teeth and bone to replace the traditional elephant ivory.

This exhibition presents pieces from various eras and manufactures, including ivory of various origins.
