The Museum of Angra do Heroísmo celebrates European Night of Museums with the exhibition Dinosaurs in Angra. The museum prepares to mark International Museum Day and, for the third consecutive year, participates in the Night of Museums (Saturday, 17 May), with activities centred on the exhibition Dinosaurs in Angra.
International Museum Day is celebrated at the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo on 16 May, all day, under the name D-Day (for Dinosaur). On this day, the museum opens its doors to all visitors, with special attention from the Education Service given to preschool and school audiences. Various activities focus on dinosaurs as a preview to the Dinosaurs in Angra exhibition.
The Night of Museums, celebrated across Europe on the evening of 17 May, offers visitors the inauguration of the Dinosaurs in Angra exhibition, which can be viewed in the Capítulo Gallery, the Gallery of Opportunities, and the cloister. That evening, Professor António M. Galopim de Carvalho will deliver a lecture on the subject at 21:30 in the Museum Auditorium, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition.
On this night, the Museum of Angra will remain open from 20:00 to 01:00, expecting, as has been traditional, a significant number of visitors arriving at an unusual hour to explore not only the dinosaur exhibition but also the other exhibitions open to the public. The presence of Galopim de Carvalho, Portugal’s leading dinosaur specialist, who will give the lecture and guide the exhibition tour, will certainly be a major highlight for attendees.
