Aerogare Civil das Lajes, until January 2021
This large 1/24th scale model of the Concorde aircraft remindes Azoreans of the 1971 Atlantic Summit held on Terceira Island between US President Richard Nixon and French President Georges Pompidou, who travelled on a Concorde. Marcelo Caetano, the Prime Minister at the time, hosted the meeting.
The Concorde was one of only two supersonic passenger aeroplanes made in the world and was produced between April 1965 (when the first part was manufactured) and the end of 1978 by a consortium formed by the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) and the French company Aerospatiale.
Commercial flights began on 21 January 1976 and ended on 24 October 2003. In that time, it was only been operated by British Airways and Air France.
