By the Sea and Land... a history of the Atlantic
The donation of Luís Filipe Thomaz’s precious numismatic collection to Angra do Heroísmo Museum’s is once again renewed with its collection of coins minted in India. This concludes the collection and collector’s journey through the three great centres of numismatic origin, ca. 600 BCC: Lydia, in Asia Minor; the Huang He (Yellow River) basin, in China; and north-west India. The importance of this numismatic collection is also inseparable from the historian’s professional career. He established very early on intense and fruitful ties with the Portuguese presence in the East by dedicating his dissertation “The Portuguese in Malacca, 1511-1580” to it in 1965.
