This month we highlight a woollen swimsuit from the 1940s, which was originally from Germany. It was donated by Gisela Brasil and is currently housed in our Textiles Conservation Unit. The phenomenon of bathing gave rise to a specific type of costume that covered almost the entire body. Over time, the swimsuit became smaller, gradually revealing the arms, shoulders and legs.
