A medal is, by definition, bright and colourful.
It seeks to draw attention to its possessor, making evident and public the community’s appreciation for someone who has somehow stood out from the rest. They are traditionally linked to military achievements, yet medals now celebrate a wide range of merits and honours.
We present some of the most interesting and ‘brilliant’ specimens from the collections of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo.
