Carmina | Dimas Simas Lopes Contemporary Art Gallery
Lisandra, Beatriz, Virgínia, Verónica, Denise, Nélia, Isilda e Urselina, these are the names of eight azorean women, their age ranging from 21 to 80. Some of them work full time in the fields, looking after the animals, to others this work is part of their free time, when they help their families with this dificult daily labor. Labor which is still a fundamental source of income to many families in Terceira Island. With the over all dominance of men in this field of work, these women are like a warm ray of sunshine in the cold of winter. They show strength, beyond any limitations or preconceptions. And as many of they say they are only helping their husbands, it is clear to see, as they work, that they are not mearly helping, they are doing what needs to be done. This exhibit exists to showcase every woman who chooses to do hard jobs and still remembers to see the beauty in them every day.
