Sala de destaques

Sala de Destaques, 8 November 2012 to 20 January 2013

On display in the Sala de Destaques until January 2013, this exhibition is part of the Museum’s committed contribution to the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Episcopal Seminary of Angra, which also operated in the former Convent of St Francis between 1862 and 1911.

This exhibition tells the story of an institution that, over the course of 150 years, has devoted all its attention to the human, religious, cultural and academic formation of many Azoreans. Many took on the role of priests, who primarily carried out this vocation in the Azores, but whose work has also extended beyond the archipelago, with particular emphasis on the former Portuguese colonies.
Through specimens, texts and images, this exhibition presents a narrative of the history of men who, under the prism of Catholicism, are prepared to serve their neighbour and bear witness to the word of Christ, transmitting knowledge and improving the human condition.
