São Francisco Building's Cloister
D. Afonso VI was exiled to Monte Brasil, in Angra, by his brother Pedro, who became Regent. The people of Terceira feel his presence, but they don’t see the deposed king.
The younger members of the local nobility strut their stuff in the streets, believing they are future members of the Court. From Lisbon, ships set sail for Terceira, they bring news of a conspiracy to return Afonso to his throne. Spies from various European ports arrive in Angra, infiltrating the inhabitants of the Universal Stopover of the Atlantic. Mystics announce prophecies and bad omens, walking among the people, side by side with hustlers, cracking smiles and provoking doubts. On the markets, spirits were uniquely high.
Angra became a powder keg and the plot was constantly deepening. Come to the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo to see the staged historical scenes that were part of the Sanjoaninas | 2019 parade, which recreates the many intrigues woven in Angra at the time of King Afonso VI.
