CHOIR OF THE CHURCH OF NOSSA SENHORA DA GUIA

The Museum continues its cycle of Baroque concerts featuring the resident organist Gustaaf Robert van Manen. Works by composers from the 16th to 18th centuries will be performed, with a focus on the unique sound of the historic organ of the Church of Our Lady of Guia, built by António Xavier Machado and Cerveira in 1788. Machado and Cerveira was the most renowned Portuguese organ maker of all time, having constructed over one hundred instruments of this type. This organ, numbered 22, is one of the oldest instruments created by him and the oldest in the Azores. It was restored in 2011 by the master organ builder Dinarte Machado.
