The Museum of Angra do Heroísmo continues its series of baroque concerts, highlighting the unique sound of the historic organ of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia. This instrument was built in 1788 by António Xavier Machado e Cerveira, a prominent figure of the Portuguese school of organ builders, and was restored in 2011 by master organ builder Dinarte Machado. As usual, the performance will be given by the museum’s resident organist, Gustaaf van Manen, who will present a program featuring works by composers from the 16th to 18th centuries. These concerts, with free admission, are part of the Museum’s mission to value and preserve the region’s musical heritage, offering the public authentic and historically informed sound experiences in a space of exceptional acoustic and symbolic value: the high choir of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia, adjacent to the São Francisco building.
