The Museum of Angra do Heroísmo continues its series of Baroque concerts, highlighting the unique sound of the historic organ of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia, an instrument built in 1788 by António Xavier Machado and Cerveira, one of the leading figures of the Portuguese school of organ builders, restored by master organ builder Dinarte Machado in 2011.
As usual, the performance will be led by the Museum’s resident organist, Gustaaf van Manen, who will present a programme featuring works by composers from the 16th to the 18th centuries. With open access, these concerts form part of the Museum’s mission to enhance and preserve the musical heritage of the Region, offering the public authentic, historically informed sound experiences in a space of exceptional acoustic and symbolic value, such as the high choir of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia, annexed to the São Francisco Building.
