San Francisco Building Library
The first month of 2024 brings with it the return to the Angra do Heroísmo Museum of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick Reading Minimarathon, which will take place on January 6 in the Library of the San Francisco Building, simultaneously with the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the Azores Sea Observatory, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon, the National Library of Cape Verde and, for the first time, with the Pico Museum and the Madeira Whale Museum. This is the 28th marathon to be held at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and the 6th time that the reading has been held at the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, in a version adapted for the Portuguese language. The activity will be preceded by the presentation of a whale songbook, which includes music from Cães do Mar theatrical productions, as well as a lecture by doctoral student Martinha Martins, entitled Melville’s Azores. At the same time, the MAH’s Education Service will be running various activities aimed at children and within the framework of the mini-marathon theme.
