Protecting the body has been the warrior’s most pressing concern since ancient times. Individual protections, which evolved as a result of offensive weapons, were also elements of social identification, of appearance, of demonstrating power or wealth and a support for artistic expression. Today, they have returned to their simple tactical role of protection.
