Speaker: Maria Assunção Melo, who has a degree in Art History from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon, a post-graduate qualification in Contemporary Art History and is a doctoral student at the University of Évora.

This FalARTE session aims to provide basic knowledge to help identify the elements that characterise various styles in the history of art. The following topics will be discussed:
• what is art and when is it art
• Humanity and the aesthetic feeling
• the difference between looking and seeing
• concepts of style and movement
• identification of style elements: Classical (Greco-Roman, Renaissance and Neoclassical), Middle Ages (Romanesque, Gothic), Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo and Romantic.
