16.05.2009 - 29.05.2009

16 to 29 May
From 16 to 29 May, with the support of the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Equipment/Regional Directorate for Science, Technology and Communications, a digital planetarium that recreates an observatory of celestial bodies will be installed in the Capítulo Gallery of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, allowing visitors to view nebulae, planets and galaxies.
We will thus join in the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the first astronomical observations made with a telescope by Galileo Galilei and the publication of the work Astronomia Nova by Kepler in the 17th century, which formed the basis for the UN declaring 2009 the International Year of Astronomy.
The planetarium will open on 16 May at 9pm to mark the European Night of Museums. On the same occasion, the exhibition The Stars Among Us will be inaugurated, and astronomical observations will take place in the cloister and courtyards of the former convent of São Francisco.
