FLORES DE JORGE JÁCOME Faced with a natural crisis in the Azores caused by an uncontrollable hydrangea plague, the Azorean population is forced to abandon the islands. Two young soldiers, captivated by the beauty of the landscape, guide us through the narratives of those who left and their inherent desire to resist by staying. Through this wandering, the film takes on a nostalgic and political reflection on territory and identity, as well as on the role we assume in the places to which we belong. BECOME OCEAN by Miguel C. Tavares The title Become Ocean comes from Luther Adams’ composition (Become Ocean, 2013), which in turn was inspired by a quote from John Cage: “Life on Earth first emerged from the ocean. As the polar ice melts and sea levels rise, we humans find ourselves facing the prospect that, once again, we may literally become ocean.” Become Ocean (2017) is about a memory of a space and a time. It is about an idea of isolation and the omnipresence of the sea. An exploratory journey between the temporary and the permanent that takes us to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, on a trip around the Azores and a specific project on the island of São Miguel: Two Manifolds, by Nuno Pimenta. Cinematography and editing: Miguel C. Tavares Music/sound: José Alberto Gomes Text: Raquel S. Voice: Joana Carvalho Colour correction: Rui Manuel Vieira Graphics: Marta Ramos
