7th Moby Dick Reading Minimarathon at the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo

The first month of 2025 brings with it the return to the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo (MAH) of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick Reading Minimarathon, This year’s session will be alongside the Cape Verde National Library, the Madeira Whale Museum and, for the first time, the Sesimbra Maritime Museum. This is the 7th time that the reading has been held at the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo with a version adapted to Portuguese by Tiago Patrício in collaboration with Pedro Alves.
The reading, which will begin at 18:00 (Azores time), will be preceded at 17:00 by the opening of an exhibition of whalebone works by Duarte Nuno Rodrigues and the presentation of the Baleeiros em Terra (Whalers on Land) project by Sidónio Bettencourt, followed by a musical performance by João da Ilha, a whaler. On the same day, the MAH’s Educational Service, is offering various activities aimed at children as part of the Moby Dick Reading Minimarathon, which also start at 18:00. They will be parallel to the reading, in a space next to the library in the São Francisco Building, always themed around the universe of Herman Melville’s literary work. The first activity will consist of a reading by Cosima van Manen of children’s works that take us back to the maritime context, followed by a drawing workshop, also led by the artist. Also, during the minimarathon, the Educational Service team has a practical activity of origami and bookmarks under the sign of the whale.
