German Breastplate from the Great War

During the Great War, the machine gun proved to be of the utmost importance in containing infantry assaults. So,these steel armour plates were created for the snipers who, during these assaults, couldn’t protect themselves behind the shields and were exposed to enemy fire. An old solution to a modern problem. This piece is part of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo’s Militaria and Armament Conservation Unit.
