The exhibition Instruments of Labour or Culture revisits the our ethnographic collection with the aim of getting visitors to re-evaluate utilitarian objects that have been, and in some cases still are, part of local daily life and to recognise their inestimable value not only as a material expression of a common cultural memory, but also as a source of reflection on current issues related to work and culture.
Many of the artefacts on display have long since ceased to perform their original functions and have returned to everyday life and contemporary spaces by being recovered as testimonies, ornaments and icons capable of fuelling nostalgia for vanished worlds. Supporting individual and collective lives, a structuring component of systems of knowledge, practices and social organisations. These pieces have been incorporated in museum spaces, where they embody their material and symbolic value as cultural heritage. They transmit knowledge, capable of sparking debate on issues that affect everyday life and that still need to be debated.
