Music Sundays

We will be continuing our series of Baroque concerts with resident organist Gustaaf van Manen. The programme will feature the 16th and 18th centuries pieces, which favour the unique sound of the historic organ of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Guia, built in 1788 by António Xavier Machado e Cerveira, one of Portugal’s greatest master organ builders, and who also built over 100 instruments of this kind. This organ, which bears the number 22, is one of the oldest instruments to come out his hands and, of these, the oldest in the Azores. In 2011, master organ builder Dinarte Machado restored it.
