Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Branch
OPENING
The event will be preceded by the inauguration of an exhibit, the first of a series of five to be held at Boa Nova every two months as part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo. It will showcase a private collection of Air Force badges collected over more than forty years by Cristóvão Azevedo. This first exhibition recognises the hierarchical organization chart, officers, and non-officers, as well as the different types, materials and techniques used. The different bases of the Portuguese Air Force will be taken into account, as well as the different squadrons. There is also a rare hand-embroidered badge that was commissioned by Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima for the American soldiers (Navy Aquanights of Atlantic) who were part of the team that rescued the bronze culverin seen in this branch, which dates from 1972.
CONFERENCES AT BOA NOVA
There will be a presentation by Portuguese Air Force 1st Sergeant Liliana Caetano, who is a specialist in the subject of Air Force badges, in terms of their evolution, characterisation and collectability. Boa Nova’s exhibitions, as well as the Uniform, Light Weapons and Heavy Weapons Reserves, will be open to visitors from 20:00 to 23:00.
