8 July to October, IV Moment From Sea and from Land… a history of the Atlantic
The First Laboratory is display of laboratory equipment from the early 20th century, which belonged to the doctor Henrique Henriques Flores.
In 2016, a very interesting collection was donated to the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo. It was part of what can be considered the oldest clinical analysis laboratory in the Azores,. It included instruments, apparatus, equipment, furniture, books and various documents belonging to Dr Henrique Henriques Flores (1907-1985).
Its enormous relevance, as well as its uniqueness, lies in the date when it all began: 1933. Only a few years had passed since 1928, when Fleming discovered the first natural antibiotic, penicillin. The collection, now kept in the Museum, has made it possible to create a reserve that can be visited in the style of a clinical analysis laboratory, typical of Alexander Fleming’s time, and with countless curiosities about how it works that demonstrate the effort and pioneering spirit of the generation to which it belongs.
