This sculpture was created by José Nuno da Câmara Pereira in 2003, at the time of the declaration of war on Iraq by the United States of America, then presided over by George W. Bush. It is titled “Senhor da Guerra” (Lord of War). In the words of art critic José Luís Porfírio, it is ‘above all, a caricature in three dimensions’ that ‘retains a renewed relevance today’.
It will be on display until January 2021 in the atrium of the NHMMCBL, it is part of MAH’s Fine Arts Conservation Unit.
José Nuno da Câmara Pereira (1937-2018) is an artist from Santa Maria Island who has made a name for himself in contemporary art through his continuous experimentation with formats, techniques and media.
