Since October 2020, Carmina – Dimas Simas Lopes Contemporary Art Gallery has been operating as a branch of the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, following its donation to the Autonomous Region of the Azores by its founder, whose name it bears. Founded in 2004, Carmina Galeria has been a hub for Contemporary Art on Terceira Island for eight years, acting as an arts laboratory and a space that brings together different cultural expressions, with the aim of continuing to establish itself as a reference center for the dissemination, reflection and enjoyment of different artistic areas. Alongside the temporary exhibitions, you can see works by authors such as Júlio Pomar and António Dacosta,
Analog Photography Laboratory
Since 2023, the gallery has also been home to the Angra do Heroísmo Museum’s resident analog photography club, Lux Fecit (“A Luz Fez”), whose aim is to maintain and disseminate the process of analog photography, the operation of photographic equipment of various formats and systems, the knowledge of film and laboratory techniques for developing and enlarging, as intangible heritage and, at the same time, the functional preservation of photographic equipment, as material heritage.
