The armour known as Maximilian (Maximilian I of the Holy Roman Empire) combined Germanic construction techniques, ribbing, fluting and convex surfaces, which ensured great resistance without excessive accumulation of grime, with the Italian style, giving rise to a new type of armour that lasted until the mid-16th century. This example, dating from the end of the first half of the 16th century, is part of the Military and Armament Collection of the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo.
