Set of Enamelled Plates

In order to standardise and regulate the movement of vehicles, people and animals on public roads, regulations and decrees were published by the central government, including the first Highway Code published in the Diário do Governo in 1928, which made it compulsory for animal-drawn vehicles to be registered with the municipal services, giving their owner a licence and a plate with a registration number. The presented pieces are examples of the plates used in the municipalities of Terceira Island and are part of tour Transport Conservation Unit.
