21:30 Screening of the film Yellow Submarine by George Dunning (1968) – Children’s session, in partnership with the Cine-Club of Terceira Island, outside the Manuel Coelho Baptista de Lima Military History Branch.
An animated film that became one of the icons of 60s pop art. Yellow Submarine was an experiment by director George Dunning and designer Heinz Edelmann that became a cult film. A story full of adventures starring the Beatles that celebrates peace and love through music.
Pepperland is a faraway kingdom that has been occupied by the Blue Meanies, monsters who have put an end to love and music. Fred is the head of the kingdom’s defunct orchestra, who has fled aboard a yellow submarine in search for help. The Beatles here will play the role of saviours. They board the yellow submarine and head for Pepperland to free the kingdom from all evil. George Dunning won a special award for animated feature film from the National Society of Film Critics.
