The Museum of Angra do Heroísmo, through its Educational Service, presents a children’s workshop where, using an educational case, participants will learn about historical techniques and applications of materials used in the preparation of paints prior to the Industrial Revolution.
On the islands, many plants were traditionally used in dyeing. Of particular note is woad (Isatis tinctoria), a dye plant linked to weaving in the Azores, which produces a black dye and a range of soft blue tones—the latter being the most valued and recognised.
