05.01.2013 - 05.01.2013
5 January | 2:00–5:30 pm
Books of hours are beautiful medieval manuscripts, richly illustrated with texts, prayers, and psalms intended to be read at specific times of the day. The Museum of Angra do Heroísmo has a copy on display in the first section of the exhibition From the Sea and the Land: A History in the Atlantic. We will admire it, learn about the methods of preparing parchment and inks, observe the different colours and sizes of its letters, and be enchanted by its illuminations. Afterwards, participants will also create their own notebooks to help organise their daily hours.
Target audience: 6 to 13 years old (folded binding) and 14 years and adults (sewn binding)
Instructor: Mariana Almeida
