Bronze sculpture ‘Infante D. Henrique’

Henrique Araújo Moreira (1890–1979) was a sculptor from Porto, nationally and internationally acclaimed. His extensive body of work demonstrates a unique harmony of lines and volumes, correct eurhythmy, and a naturalistic expressiveness that imparts immense serenity to his pieces, clearly evident in this representation of Prince Henry. The sculpture, part of the Fine Arts Collection of the Museum of Angra do Heroismo, depicts the Prince in a contemplative pose, seated with his gaze fixed on the horizon, his cloak billowing in the wind, evoking his role as mentor of the Age of Discoveries and founder of the legendary School of Sagres.
