To mark on 25 November 1975 and the beginning of the consolidation of democracy in Portugal, the MAH invites Dr Carlos Enes to share the moments he considers significant during the PREC period, in his capacity as a militia second lieutenant in the Air Force. The speaker took part in a series of activities that were defining moments in the political landscape – Air Force Assemblies, the MFA, collaboration with residents’ committees, and awareness campaigns in the Azores and Trás-os-Montes – providing the perspective of a military officer, which was not always captured by civil society. Carlos Enes was born in 1951 in Vila Nova, Terceira Island. A secondary school teacher since 1978, he has also taught at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo and at Universidade Aberta in Lisbon. He holds a Master’s degree in 19th- and 20th-century History; served as Pedagogical Advisor in the Educational Branch at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon; is a member of the Regional Council of Culture; was a deputy in the Portuguese Parliament for the Socialist Party; and has been awarded the Professional Merit Medal by the Regional Government and the Merit and Excellence Medal by the Vila Nova Parish Council. He has devoted himself to the study of regional history, resulting in dozens of books and articles.
